Terms and Conditions

We apologize if you find these a bit long-winded but these conditions are a necessity! It will always be our policy to do everything in our powers to give you an enjoyable and memorable motoring experience.

Definitions

HIRER: The person or persons entitled to drive the vehicle.
OWNER: Caledonian Classics Ltd.
DRIVERS: The person or persons entitled to drive the vehicle: all drivers must be aged between 25 and 79 and must have held a full driving licence for 2 years. A clean (minor endorsements accepted) driving licence must be produced prior to commencement of hire. One additional driver may be added for a nominal charge. Caledonian Classics reserves the right to refuse to hire any vehicles at its own discretion.

Persons not entitled to drive

i. Under 25 or over 79 years of age
ii. Has been refused motor insurance
iii. Has any mental or physical defect of infirmity or suffers from fits, or major medical complaint
iv. Has been banned from driving by conviction or has penalty points imposed (minor endorsements accepted)
v. Whilst driving, has been involved in more than one accident during the past 3 years

Insurance policy cover

All Caledonian Classics vehicles are insured on a fully comprehensive policy. The cars are also covered by a breakdown and recovery scheme. It is the responsibility of the Hirer to ensure that the car is locked and secure whilst unattended.

Travel insurance

We cannot reimburse travel costs or other losses incurred by you in the event of cancellation by us or you. We advise you to take out travel insurance to cover potential loss arising from cancellation or other eventuality affecting your booking.

Excess and securities bond

Excess and securities bond: The hirer must leave an open credit card voucher for £1000.00 to £1250.00 depending on the type of car. This is held as:
i. A security bond
ii. Payment towards mechanical damage not covered by the insurance e.g. tyres, wheels, clutch damaged during the hire period.
iii. Insurance excess against accidental damage or loss caused to the vehicle by a third party or the Hirer.
iv. Additional charges incurred during hire, for excess mileage or petrol.

Bookings

Bookings can be made by credit card (VISA or MASTERCARD only) or by cheque with guarantee card. Bookings will be confirmed upon clearance of funds.

Use of vehicle

The vehicle can be used for social, domestic and pleasure purposes by any person permitted by the Owner to drive whilst the vehicle is let on hire. The policy does not cover use of hire vehicle for racing, pace making, reliability trials, competition, driving tuition or towing. The vehicle must not be taken out of Scotland without written permission of the Owner.

Choice of car

In the event of unavailability of a chosen car due to Accident, Mechanical or other problems beyond our control, The Owner will inform the Hirer and offer either an alternative car for the chosen date or an alternative date.

Cancellations

Cancellations will be accepted up to six weeks before the hire date but your deposit will be returned less £50 cancellation fee. If your hire is cancelled after this time unfortunately we will not be able to offer a refund. However if we can find someone to take the cancelled booking we will return your money less your deposit.

We reserve the right to cancel a booking before or on the start date if the weather conditions in our opinion are dangerous. We will arrange a alternative mutually agreed date within one year of the date of cancellation.

Fuel

The cars are supplied to the Hirer with a full tank of petrol. The Hirer shall return the vehicle with a full tank of petrol. The Hirer is responsible for using the correct type of fuel required for the vehicle. Failure to do any of the above will result in charges for fuel or repair to the vehicle.

Materials supplied by owner

All keys, locks, hampers, tools, spare parts, maps and equipment supplied with the car are the property of the Owner and must be returned with the car at the end of the hire period. Failure to do so will result in charges for replacement items.

Personal property

Any vehicle or personal property left at the Owners premises is done so entirely at your own risk. Caledonian Classics is only responsible for loss or damage to personal property if the loss or damage results from our negligence. The Owner is not responsible for loss or damage to the Hirers personal property within the Owners vehicle during the hire period.

Hours of hire

The hire period is from 09:00 on the first day to 17:00 on the last day. Failure to comply will result in additional hire charges based on the daily hire rate.

Charges

The Hirer shall reimburse to the Owner on demand
i. Any charges for fuel, damage or other miscellaneous charges shown in this agreement and booking form.
ii. The Owner costs, including reasonable legal fees incurred in collecting payments due from Hirer under this agreement
iii. Any fines, penalties, court costs or other expenses imposed on Caledonian Classics by law arising from the use of the vehicle whilst on hire.
iv. Any recovery, towing or storage charges if the vehicle is stolen lost or damaged prior to its return by the Hirer or its recovery by the Owner.

Acceptance

By making a booking whether in writing or by telephone, the customer agrees to these terms and conditions. The Hirer will be required to sign our Standard Rental Agreement before the hire commences. The Hirer agrees to accept the debit to his/her credit card account of the charges incurred under the agreement. All charges are subject to final audit.
